Terra Restaurant finds its new home at Al Qana, Abu Dhabi, where it seamlessly translates its distinctive architecture while embracing the local standards and community ethos.

Establishing Connection and Challenging Convention

The primary aim was to establish a robust connection between the kitchen and guests, challenging the traditional restaurant layout norms. The triangular layout of the site posed unique challenges, leading to multiple iterations of space design. Ultimately, a solution was devised, running parallel to one of the three sides. This layout facilitated a striking arrangement of sculptural volumes and open bays that seamlessly integrate the dining space with the kitchen.

Harmonizing with Nature

Lush greenery is interspersed throughout the space, offering a refuge from the bustling surroundings. Terra’s identity and character are defined by a rich burgundy palette, incorporating materials such as scratched glazed tiles, patina metal panels, and date seed panels. Translucent raw fiberglass panels clad the existing columns, complementing the bold color scheme. Additionally, fiberglass was utilized for a custom chandelier suspended from one corner of the space.

Illuminating Architectural Forms

The lighting strategy, orchestrated by Fabraca Studios, dynamically responds to the architectural forms, enhancing the nighttime experience. Bespoke light fixtures, featuring a consistent design element repeated throughout the space, adorn various mounting points. This cohesive lighting design not only elevates the overall ambiance but also highlights the architectural intricacies inherent in the space.
