Situated in Higienópolis, the Sabará apartment retained its original 1940s layout, characterized by segmented rooms inhibiting the flow of light and air. The challenge lay in transforming these spacious yet divided spaces into a cohesive living environment.

Spatial Integration

The intervention aimed to establish a seamless connection between the living areas, particularly the balcony and kitchen, leveraging abundant natural light sources. Walls were dismantled to create an open-plan layout, while pillars and beams were left exposed, highlighting the apartment’s structural elements.

Design Elements

Excessive finishes and textures were removed, retaining only the restored parquet flooring. A new concrete bench in the living room complemented the building’s original structure, preserving its authenticity.

Reconfiguration

The balcony, previously integrated with the living room, was separated to align with the apartment’s original design. A new glass door facilitates fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces when desired.

Kitchen Integration

Enhancing connectivity, the kitchen was linked to the living room via an opening framed in green, accentuating the intervention. A terrazzo counter fosters interaction, allowing occupants to engage in culinary activities together.

Space Optimization

Expanding the kitchen area accommodated both a breakfast table and a larger counter, necessitating alterations to the laundry room’s access. A new window introduced ample light into the kitchen from the laundry area.

Bathroom Renovation

Addressing the scarcity of bathrooms, one large bathroom was divided into two, accommodating a children’s bathroom and a guest lavatory. This reconfiguration optimized the apartment’s functionality and convenience.

Room Adaptation

The apartment’s three rooms were reimagined, with one transformed into a TV room and its access rerouted to the social area. Demolishing the wall between the hallway and the TV room facilitated the creation of a wardrobe facing the intimate corridor space.

Through meticulous planning and strategic interventions, Renata Lovro Arquitetura rejuvenated the Sabará apartment, seamlessly blending modern functionality with the charm of its heritage architecture.
