Situated on the 12th floor of the Boucry Tower, also known as Super 18, the Super 18 Apartment project involves the revitalization of a 45m2 apartment. Built in 1974 by Jean-Robert Delb, this tower stands as a discreet yet significant landmark in northeastern Paris, blending seamlessly into the cityscape and symbolizing successful integration of high-rise buildings into urban environments.
Redefining Functionality
The renovation of Super 18 Apartment aims to cater to the diverse needs of its inhabitants, who seek a hybrid living and working space. By streamlining the essential functions of the dwelling, including the bathroom, kitchen, library, and storage, into integrated “service walls,” the design creates a spacious, versatile environment that transitions fluidly between domestic and professional activities.
Flexible Open Plan
The apartment features an open-plan layout where various functions coexist harmoniously. A large curved curtain serves as a flexible partition, modulating the space according to the time of day and specific activities. This dynamic arrangement allows for seamless transitions between different uses while maximizing the panoramic views of the metropolitan skyline.
Embracing Modern Condominiums
The Super 18 Apartment project highlights the adaptability of large condominiums inherited from modern architecture to accommodate evolving lifestyles. Rather than advocating for demolition, the design emphasizes the regeneration and revitalization of existing structures, leveraging their rational structural frameworks to meet contemporary needs and preferences.
