Apple recently introduced new MacBook Pro models featuring the latest iteration of M1 chips. Reports suggest that the forthcoming MacBook Air will inherit various features from the MacBook Pro lineup, as per a recent leak.
Design and Features
According to leaks from Dylandkt, the new MacBook Air will bear a striking resemblance to the MacBook Pro but with a slimmer and lighter build. The bezels and keyboard will sport an off-white hue, reminiscent of the 24-inch iMac. Similar to the iMac, the MacBook Air is expected to be available in a range of color options, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. Additionally, the keyboard will boast full-sized keys, and there are speculations of a 1080p webcam inclusion.
Expected Omissions and Additions
However, the MacBook Air may lack certain features, such as Face ID, an SD card slot, HDMI port, and fans. The presence of a notch design, introduced in the MacBook Pro, remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the MacBook Air is anticipated to include USB-C ports, a 30W adapter, and support for MagSafe charging. Apple is also likely to offer a binned option in the configuration choices, with support for at least two external displays. Moreover, the M2 chip is expected to make its debut with this MacBook iteration.
Renaming and Market Positioning
Apple might opt to drop the ‘Air’ moniker from this MacBook model, simply branding it as ‘MacBook’. It remains unclear whether this implies the discontinuation of the MacBook Air lineup or if Apple is reviving the MacBook series. Initially launched in 2015, MacBook models occupied a position between the Air and Pro variants. The last MacBook model was introduced in 2019.
Expected Release
The upcoming MacBook Air or MacBook models are rumored to launch sometime in the middle of 2022.
