UTA, a leading talent agency, sought to create a new office environment reflective of their culture and clientele after outgrowing their former space in Nashville. Collaborating with HASTINGS Architecture, they embarked on a journey to revitalize a historic office building, infusing it with sophistication and contemporary flair while preserving its mid-century charm.
Design Concept and Vision
The UTA office spans 15,000 square feet across multiple levels, featuring private offices, workstations, meeting rooms, lounges, and wellness amenities. Dubbed as a “gallery of talent,” the space is meticulously crafted to showcase the diverse range of artists and creatives represented by UTA. The design introduces elements of darker tones and textures, adding depth and character to the predominantly white environment.
Welcoming Reception and Lounge Spaces
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a custom black-stained oak reception desk inspired by the movement of vinyl records. White back-painted glass panels provide an elegant backdrop to the reception area, complemented by comfortable lounge furniture and contemporary art pieces. The first-floor lounge serves as a pre-function space for meeting rooms, featuring mid-century inspired millwork and brass-fitted shelving details.
Meeting Rooms and Agent Offices
Custom black-stained millwork frames the glass system in the meeting rooms, paying homage to the stage proscenium. The elliptical meeting table echoes the curvature of arched windows, while acoustical gypsum ceilings ensure privacy for digital presentations. Agent offices are designed for comfort and functionality, with oversized layouts and custom sit-stand desks clad in oak veneer.
Mezzanine and Rooftop Deck
The mezzanine level offers a communal space for gatherings and events, nestled beneath 19-foot-high ceilings. A monumental oak stair serves as the main circulation point, encouraging employees to embrace physical activity. Offices on the upper floors boast sweeping views of downtown Nashville, with a rooftop deck providing outdoor working spaces and opportunities for socializing amidst lush vertical landscaping.
Conclusion: Bridging Past and Present
The transformation of the UTA offices by HASTINGS Architecture exemplifies the seamless integration of history and modernity. By preserving architectural elements of the past while introducing contemporary design features, the project honors the building’s heritage while creating a dynamic workspace tailored to the needs of a forward-thinking talent agency.
